Owenton is located strategically between Interstate 64, Interstate 75, and Interstate 71. You can travel in any direction to large towns such as Cincinnati, Lexington and Louisville. We are in the heart of the beautiful Blue Grass Region and within an hour and fifteen minutes of 3.7 million people.

Primary interests here are horse and cattle farming. Grape growing is fast becoming an alternative to the tobacco industry, with the opening of Elk Creek Winery. Actaris, a gas meter manufacturing company, Owen Electric and our school system are the largest employers in the area. Many residents easily make the commute to the larger cities for employment.

In 1999 the Kentucky Speedway, a NASCAR Race Track was completed, causing interest and growth in the area. Elk Creek Clays has brought tourism to Owen County as well as the resorts areas; Elk Lake and Perry Park. You can be relaxing away from the big city within one hour. Also, Owen County is rated as having the highest deer population in the state.

If you are looking for a place to get away from the hectic, Owen County may be just the one. It is not uncommon to be at Board meeting for the Chamber of Commerce and see a red fox walk casually by the window. Or sitting a dentist chair and watch the cows grazing in the pasture just across the drive. If you stop and listen, you can even hear the church organ playing all over town.

Come visit, look around and you too will want to stay and experience the atmosphere of our small town community where the hunting is good, the fish are biting and relaxing is common.
