Owen County

Your Owen County, Ky.

Take a breath of fresh air and stroll along a dirt road that leads to where you want to be. Owen County is nestled right in between three large cities: Louisville, Cincinnati, and Lexington. With a 45 minute drive, you can be shopping at all of the major department stores or enjoying a live concert- (of course, we have those here, too!)

Owen County gives you a lifestyle that you have always dreamed of. With beautiful rolling hills and pristine lakes- fishing, hunting and nature-watching are a guarantee. We have the highest deer population in all of the surrounding areas. Our communities are always friendly and inviting! And, yes- everybody knows your name!

Owen County offers many types of recreational choices- including outdoor water activities such as canoeing/kayaking, camping and hiking. Enjoy Elk Creek Vineyards- where you can sample wines (from red to white) and you can be entertained in the area's largest outdoor concert venues. Enjoy Owenton's delicious small cafe's and restaurants and shop in town at the eclectic stores and find rarities from the past. For an overnight or weekend trip, Owen county has several Bed and Breakfasts and a hotel.

In 1999 the Kentucky Speedway, a NASCAR Race Track, was completed causing interest and growth in the area. Elk Creek Hunt Club has brought tourism and the 2009 US Open to Owen County. We also have resort areas like Elk Lake and Perry Park- enjoy boating and golfing at it's finest!

Primary businesses here are horse and cattle farming, and agriculture. Grape growing is fast becoming an alternative to the tobacco industry, thanks to the lovely people at Elk Creek Vineyards.
Itron, Owen Electric, and the Owen County School system are the largest employers in the area. Many residents do prefer to make an easy commute to the larger cities for employment.

If you are looking for a place to get away from the hectic world, Owen County may be just the one. It is not uncommon to be at a board meeting for the Chamber of Commerce and see a red fox walk casually by the window. Or sitting in a dentist chair and watching the cows grazing in the pasture just across the drive.

Come visit. Simply look around- and you, too, will want to stay and experience the atmosphere of our small town community where the hunting is good, the fish are biting, and relaxation is a norm.
